Top 10 Ways to Imitate Successful Bloggers - Part IV

cartoonIt’s hard to understand why certain blogs are so successful and some get lost in cyber space. Regardless of what self-proclaimed blog experts say, a key to having a successful blog remains a mystery to us. Obviously, your blog is considered a success if you draw a large number of readers and there are certain things you can do to increase the chance of your blog being discovered by potential readers. Viral marketing, link exchanges, blog directories, search engines, regular posting, and paid advertising are just few examples of things that you can do to promote your blog. By the way, you don’t have to read the rest of this article if your blog is intended only for your family and friends.

Content Reigns Supreme

Building a blog that has an original content is the closest thing you can do to unlocking secrets of successful bloggers. Some bloggers call it niche blogging but I don’t buy that argument because niche blogging basically means to write about something that only few people would be interested in reading. That would severely limit your audience and you blog will eventually deserted in cyberspace if you don’t reach your intended readers.

I think providing an original content has to do with one’s creativity. You should be able to write about anything and make it interesting as long as you possess the talent. That’s what eventually separates good bloggers from bad because if you can’t write or express your opinions in writing then you’re in trouble. I suggest you go back to college and take your English 101 all over again.

Let’s take a look at a couple of examples first. Our first candidate is a blog called Cocaine Corner. It’s allegedly written by a 20 something New Yorker who is addicted to cocaine. Now, some might assume why would anybody read his ramblings and we certainly sympathize with your opinion because we thought the same thing until we interviewed the guy who runs this blog. He is one of those rare characters who possess the talent of writing. His simple yet sophisticated style of writing attracts many readers to his blog and most of them don’t really care if his story is a fiction or memoir. According to our calculation, his blog gets at least 2-5 thousand unique visitors per/pay.

Some so called blog experts will tell you to stay away from blogging about your daily ramblings. Then you take a look at Xiaxue’s blog because her blog is ranked at 42 in Tecnorait’s top 100 blogs. It receives about 16K unique visitors per/day and she does nothing but ramble. I really encourage you to visit her blog is because there is really nothing special and yet she managed to attract thousands of unique visitors per/day.

Finally, our opinion about blogging is to write whatever you desire but please try to make it interesting. You need not to try so hard to promote your blog because unlike earlier days of the Internet, search engines like Google and Yahoo can penetrate real deep in cyberspace. As long as you provide an interesting content to your readers and update frequently, your blog will eventually be discovered and displayed by major search engines. In other words, if you build it – they will come but this only applies to blogs that provide good and quality contents.
